“An Interdisciplinary Perspective on Modern Economic History”

Date and Venue: December 6, 2013 @ Sala Del Capitolo (Badia Fiesolana)
Hosting Institution: European University Institute (Department of History and Civilization)
Keynote Speaker: Giovanni Vecchi (University of Rome Tor Vergata and World Bank)
Local Organizers: Gabriele Cappelli, Alexis Frédéric Drach, Rémi Gilardin, Alfredo Mazzamauro
FRESH Organizers: Rowena Gray, Paul Sharp and Jacob Weisdorf

FRESH meetings are well known for enabling researchers in social and economic history to present early-stage and unpublished research to a friendly audience of peers. The Florence FRESH Meeting hosted by the European University Institute aims to bridge different perspectives on modern economic history. In particular, the workshop welcomes participants whose work is developed across disciplinary and departmental borders, in order to enhance on-going research and benefit from the exchange of ideas and criticisms that such a meeting is likely to foster.

Proposals from any field and branch of modern economic history (roughly from 1800 to the present day) are welcomed – as well as papers from other disciplines that are developed in a historical perspective. Accepted papers will receive 30 minutes each: 15 / 20 for presentation and 10 / 15 for discussion. Please note that the presentation time may vary according to the number of participants.

A participation fee of 70 Euros must be paid on acceptance of submission. The organizers will offer refreshments, lunch and dinner – but travel and hotel expenses must be covered by the participants themselves. Further information on bookings and how to get to the venue will be provided to the participants. For more information on the EUI please visit www.eui.eu.

How to Apply

Prospective speakers should send a one-page (500 words) abstract and a CV to Gabriele Cappelli (gabriele.cappelli@eui.eu) no later than July 7, 2013. Notification of acceptance will be given by the end of July 2013.
